The shares of Best Buy Co Inc (NYSE:BBY) are down 8.5% to trade at $103.83 this morning after the company's fourth-quarter revenue and same-store sales fell short of analysts' expectations. The tech store giant's earnings of $3.48 did beat Wall Street's forecasts by 3 cents, however, but the equity is suffering as the pandemic-fueled electronics demand begins to cool off.

During last March's broader market pullback, BBY dipped as low as $48.11 -- its lowest level in a year at that point. The security mounted a monumental comeback, however, which culminated in a new all-time high of $124.89 on Nov. 5 as stay-at-home orders pushed consumers toward more lockdown-friendly entertainment outlets. While the shares have yet to rally back toward this peak, the stock is up 38.6% year-over-year.

The brokerage bunch is optimistic toward the equity, too. In fact, 10 of the 16 covering BBY carry a "strong buy" rating, with the remaining six at a "hold." Meanwhile, the 12-month consensus price target of $122.98 is a large 18.3% premium to last night's close. 

For those wanting to weigh in on BBY's next move, options may be the way to go. The stock's Schaeffer's Volatility Index (SVI) of 47% sits higher than just 19% of readings in its annual range, suggesting short-term option traders are pricing in relatively low volatility expectations -- a boon for premium buyers.

As earnings season begins to wind down, there will be plenty of economic data for investor's to sift through. Employment data will likely be the highlight the week, with plenty of manufacturing data on tap as well. Retail will be the main focus of earnings, and the list of upcoming earnings reports includes American Eagle (AEO), AMC Entertainment (AMC), Autozone (AZO), BJ's Wholesale (BJ), Costco (COST), JD.com (JD), NIO (NIO) Novavax (NVAX), Target (TGT), Urban Outfitters (URBN), and Zoom Video (ZM).

Monday, Mar. 1, will bring the Markit manufacturing Purchasing Manager's Index (PMI) and the ISM manufacturing index. 

Tuesday, Mar. 2, will be fairly slow, with motor vehicle sales slated for release.

Wednesday, Mar. 3, the ADP employment report, the Markit services PMI, the Markit composite PMI, and the ISM non-manufacturing PMI are on tap.

Thursday, Mar. 4, initial and continuing jobless claims are due out, along with unit labor costs, nonfarm productivity data, and factory orders. 

To end the week, Friday, Mar. 5 will feature nonfarm payrolls, unemployment rate data, and trade deficit data. 

The shares of NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) are taking a step back this morning, down 3.4% at $560.22, following its fourth-quarter earnings report. The company did post revenue and earnings per share that topped analysts' estimates, but what appears to be sinking the stock this morning is the company's struggles to keep its flagship gaming chips in stock amid a global chip crunch.

Analysts appear undeterred this morning. No less than 14 have already lifted their price targets, the highest coming from Needham to $800 from $700. J.P. Morgan Securities, which lifted its price target to $660, predicted that the supply/demand issues the company is facing will normalize by the second half of the year. 

Sentiment surrounding the equity was already optimistic coming into today. Of the 21 in coverage, 17 considered NVDA a "buy" or better. Meanwhile, the 12-month consensus price target of $614.93 stood at a 9.8% premium to last night's close. 

Option players have taken a similarly bullish stance. At the International Securities Exchange (ISE), Cboe Options Exchange (CBOE), and NASDAQ OMX PHLX (PHLX), NVDA sports a 10-day call/put volume ratio of 2.29, which stands higher than 89% of readings from the past 12 months. This implies these traders have been picking up calls at a much quicker clip than usual. 

This generally sunny outlook doesn't come as much of a surprise. NVDA has seen a decent run on the charts since last year's late-March lows, notching a one-year return of roughly 121%. Since hitting an all-time high of $614.900 early last week, however, the security has been cooling, though long-term support at the equity's 120- and 1400-day moving average could help capture some of this pullback. 

Initial and continuing jobless claims are due out today, along with durable goods orders, gross domestic product (GDP), and pending home sales. The earnings schedule is packed to the brim today, too.

The shares of retail stock Dick's Sporting Goods Inc (NYSE:DKS) are experiencing a bull flag pattern on the charts, with support from both their 20- and 30-day moving averages. Both these trendlines have been significant for the equity in its recent rally, and it looks like DKS is poised for its next run higher.

In the options pits, DKS's 50-day put/call volume ratio of 1.22 at the International Securities Exchange (ISE), Cboe Options Exchange (CBOE), and NASDAQ OMX PHLX (PHLX) stands higher than 84% of readings from the past year. This indicates a stronger-than-usual penchant for long puts in the last 10 weeks.

Meanwhile, analysts are split on Dick's Sporting Good stock, leaving plenty of room for optimism that could act as a tailwind. More specifically, eight of the 16 in coverage carry a "hold" or worse rating on DKS. And although shorts have been in covering mode since June, with short interest down 14.8% during the most recent reporting period, there is still plenty of these bearish bets left. Short interest makes up an impressive 17.8% of the stock's available float, and represent 4.5 days' worth of pent-up buying power.
 
Speculating on the security's next move with options could be a prudent play. The stock's Schaeffer's Volatility Index (SVI) of 56% stands higher than just 16% of all other readings in its annual range, implying that options players are pricing in relatively low volatility expectations at the moment. Furthermore, the security's Schaeffer's Volatility Scorecard (SVS) sits at a reasonably high 83 out of 100, meaning DKS has tended to exceed these volatility expectations during the past year.

As sports gambling stocks continue to benefit from a paradigm shift, it's no surprise that the shares of Penn National Gaming, Inc (NASDAQ:PENN) boast a massive year-over-year lead of 261.6%. PENN should also benefit from a new partnership with Rivers Casino & Resort, a New York casino that -- assuming regulatory and legislative blocks are hurdled -- will give the company access to the state's lucrative market. The security has already tacked on 35.3% in 2021, and is recently removed from a Feb. 5, all-time high of $129. Even better, there is a bull signal flashing for PENN, suggesting another surge higher may be in the cards.

Specifically, the equity just came within one standard deviation of its 40-day moving average, after spending the majority of the past four months far above the trendline. According to data from Schaeffer's Senior Quantitative Analyst Rocky White, four similar signals have occurred during the past three years. Penn National Gaming stock enjoyed positive returns one month after 67% of these signals, averaging a notable gain of 23.4%. A similar move from its current perch of $116.75, would propel the security to another record high of just over $144.

On the analyst front, earlier this week J.P. Morgan Securities hit PENN with a bull note in the form of a price-target hike to $142 from $134. The brokerage bunch, meanwhile, wasn't as sure coming into today, leaving plenty of room for additional upgrades/or price-target hikes. The 14 in coverage were evenly split, with seven calling the equity a "strong buy," versus seven that rated the equity a "hold" or worse, while the 12-month consensus target price of $110.92 is a 5.5% discount to current levels.

Options traders, however, are piling aboard the bullish bandwagon. This is per Penn National Gaming stock's 50-day call/put volume ratio of 2.48 International Securities Exchange (ISE), Cboe Options Exchange (CBOE), and NASDAQ OMX PHLX (PHLX), which stands higher than 80% of readings from the past year. This means this heavy penchant for bullish bets is unusual.

Options look like a good way to go when weighing in on the gambling stock. The security's Schaeffer's Volatility Index (SVI) of 76% stands in the 6th percentile of all other readings in its annual range, implying that options players are pricing in relatively low volatility expectations at the moment.
