Cheniere Energy, Inc. (NYSEMKT:LNG) put volume took off after Carl Icahn announced his new stake in the company

The Dow closed lower for the seventh straight session, and the Nasdaq had a similarly dreary day, as several biotech stocks suffered. Across all 12 options exchanges, 7.86 million calls crossed, compared to 8.34 million puts. The day's put/call volume ratio closed at 1.06.

Cheniere Energy, Inc. (NYSEMKT:LNG) put volume jumped to four times the average amount after Carl Icahn disclosed a stake in the company. J C Penney Company Inc (NYSE:JCP) also saw puts exchanged at four times the typical pace, as the retailer prepares to release earnings a week from today.

Meanwhile, call volume on SYSCO Corporation (NYSE:SYY) ended at 12 times the daily norm. Additionally, even with the stock sliding for the second straight day, Sunedison Inc (NYSE:SUNE) calls crossed at four times what's normally seen.
