The Week Ahead: Quiet Week as Holidays Approach

No earnings are on deck until the New Year

The economic calendar is looking sparse next week, with both Christmas and Hannukah happening on Wednesday, December 25. The holiday-shortened week still features some key economic indicators, including jobs, retail inventories, durable goods, and consumer confidence data. Earnings will pause altogether, with no notable names slated to report quarterly results until 2025.

Below is a list of key market events scheduled for the upcoming week. All economic dates listed below are tentative and subject to change.

Monday, December 23 will host the consumer confidence report.

Durable goods orders and new home sales data will be published on Tuesday, December 24. The market will close at 1 p.m. ET in observation of Christmas Eve.

Wall Street will be closed for Christmas Day and the first day of Hanukkah on Wednesday, December 25.

Per usual, on the docket for Thursday, December 26 is jobs data.

Advanced U.S. trade balance in goods, as well as retail and wholesale inventories are slated for Friday, December 27.
