The consumer price index (CPI), as well as core CPI readings are on tap today. In addition, a federal budget update is slated for release, alongside the latest from the U.S. Federal Reserve's Beige book. 

The following public companies are slated to release corporate earnings today, January 12:

Jefferies Financial Group Inc. (NYSE:JEF-- $41.43) engages in the investment banking and capital markets, asset management, and direct investing businesses in the Americas, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. Jefferies will report its Q4 earnings of 2021 before the close today.

Shaw Communications Inc. (NYSE:SJR-- $30.23) operates as a connectivity company in North America. Shaw Communications will report its Q1 earnings of 2022 before the close today.

KB Home (NYSE:KBH-- $42.15) operates as a homebuilding company in the United States. KB Home will report its Q4 earnings of 2021 after the market closes today.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, the producer price index (PPI) is on the docket, as well as initial and continuing jobless claims.
