Today kicks off trading for 2022
Happy first trading day of 2022! The first week of the year will kick off with a bang. Most notably, employment data will be at the forefront of investors' minds to start off 2022. Plus, as the start of the new quarter begins, several companies will report earnings, such as Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBY), Conagra (CAG), Constellation Brands (STZ), Jefferies (JEF), Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA), and WD-40 (WDFC).
This is a friendly reminder that there is no stock market holiday observed for New Year's Day in 2022. With the first day of the year falling on a Saturday, standard practice would be to observe the holiday on the Friday ahead of the weekend. However, the U.S. stock markets were open regular hours on New Year's Eve and will be open for regular trading hours today.
Today the final Markit manufacturing purchasing managers' index (PMI) is due out, along with construction spending data.
