Stocks rose in dramatic fashion to begin the new week on Monday, with optimism coming from additional U.S. fiscal stimulus hopes and a Big Tech rally. Yesterday's rise also comes as speculation begins about the first debate between U.S. President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden slated for this evening. 

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI - 27,584.06) rose 1.5% by the close of the day yesterday. Boeing (BA) led the list of winners with an 6.4% rise while Merck (MRK) paced the small list of three losers for the day, notching an 0.2% drop. The S&P 500 Index (SPX -3,351.6) tacked on 1.6% for the day on Monday while the Nasdaq Composite (IXIC - 11,117.53) 1.9% during yesterday's trading session. Lastly, the Cboe Volatility Index (VIX - 26.19) 0.7% for the day yesterday.

Today the economic calendar is kicking into high gear with the S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller home-price index and consumer confidence data set to roll in.   • AngioDynamics, Inc. (NASDAQ: ANGO -- $10.67) designs, manufactures, and sells various medical, surgical, and diagnostic devices in the United States and worldwide.

  • IHS Markit Ltd. (NYSE: INFO -- $80.06) is a provider of critical information, analytics, and solutions for various industries and markets that drive economies worldwide. INFO has gone down 3.5% year-to-date.

    - IHS Markit will report its second-quarter earnings before the bell today.

  • McCormick & Company, Incorporated (NYSE: MKC -- $195.18) is a distributor of spices, seasoning mixes, condiments, and other flavorful products to the food industry. MKC is up 7.6% year-over-year.

  • Comtech Telecommunications Corp. (NASDAQ: CMTL -- $14.03) is a provider of products, systems, and services for communications solutions in the United States and internationally.

    - Comtech Telecom will report its fiscal third-quarter earnings after the market closes today.

  • Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: MU -- $49.72) is a provider of provides airport and off airport vehicle rental and leasing services.

  • Progress Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS -- $37.28) is a developer of business applications.

    - Synnex will report its second-quarter earnings after the market closes today.

Tomorrow, the last day of September, investors' will shift their attention to the Automatic Data Processing (ADP) national employment report, as well as the latest GDP reading. The PMI also comes out, accompanied by pending home sales and crude oil inventories data on Tuesday. There are no notable earnings reports on deck but we will you in the loop tomorrow with any potential quarterly reports that are scheduled between now and then.
