Last week we saw major indexes reverse course from the previous week’s rally, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI) in particular, plunging in dramatic fashion, thanks to steep losses in the tech sector.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJI - 27,665.64) added 131.06 points, or 0.5% on Friday, but lost 1.7% last week. Nike Inc (NYSE: NKE -- $118) paced the list of winners last week, finishing the week 2.8% higher. Meanwhile, (NYSE: CRM -- $243.10) bottomed out the list of nine laggards, with a 1.9% fall last week.

Meanwhile, the S&P 500 Index (SPX - 3,340.97) rose 1.8 points, or 0.05% on Friday. The Nasdaq Composite (IXIC - 10,853.55) lost 1.1 points, or 0.07% during Friday's session. The indexes lost 2.5% and 4.1%, respectively, last week.

Lastly, the Cboe Volatility Index (VIX - 26.87) fell 2.8 points, or 9.6%, for the day, and 12.6% last week.

It will be relatively quiet on the earnings front this week although Lennar Corporation, reporting today, is a company we have been keeping on our radar lately. Lennar is the only company slated to release their quarterly earnings today.

  • Lennar Corporation (NYSE: LEN -- $77.48) is a home construction and real estate company based in Miami, Florida.

    -         Lennar will report its second-quarter earnings after the market closes today.

This week also kicks off with release of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) monthly oil market report today, covering issues that affect the global oil market and providing a long-term outlook. Tomorrow, we'll see an expanded earnings lineup as well as the International Energy Agency (IEA) monthly oil market report will be released, along export and import prices, manufacturing and industrial production data. The Fed's meeting will begin later in the day tomorrow, too.
