Walmart will be the single blue chip posting earnings next week
While next week will be a short one due to Monday's market closure in honor of President's Day, there will be plenty of economic data and earnings stuffed into those next four trading days. The most notable name to enter the earnings confessional is Walmart (WMT) which will post its quarterly report on Tuesday, while quarterly reports from Advance Auto Parts (AAP), Dropbox (DBX) and Mosaic (MOS) are also on tap. As far as economic activity, Wall Street will take the most recent Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting minutes into account, while plenty of housing data is also slated to drop throughout the week.
Below is a brief list of some key market events and a few high-profile earnings releases scheduled for the upcoming week. All earnings and economic dates listed below are tentative and subject to change. Please check with each company's respective website for official reporting dates.
On Monday, Feb. 17. markets will be closed in observance of President's Day.
On Tuesday, Feb. 18, trading will pick back up with plenty of economic data on the docket, including the Empire state manufacturing index and the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) housing market index. A bevy of earnings reports will roll out too, with notable reports from Walmart, Advance Auto, Bloomin' Brands (BLMN) and Groupon (GRPN) on the docket.
The producer price index (PPI) is due out on Wednesday, Feb. 19, along with data on housing starts and building permits. Wall Street will also digest the minutes from the latest FOMC meeting. On the earnings front, focus will be turned toward Cheesecake Factory (CAKE), Garmin (GRMN), Hyatt Hotels (H), Immunomedics (IMMU), and Mosaic.
Thursday, Feb. 20, will bring data on weekly jobless claims, as well as the Philly Fed manufacturing index, and January's leading economic indicators. AK Steel (AKS), Domino's Pizza (DPZ), Dropbox, Henry Schein (HSIC), Puma Biotech (PBYI), and Universal Display (OLED) will all step into the earnings confessional.
The shortened week will close out on Friday, Feb. 21, with numbers from the Markit manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) and the Markit services PMI. Existing home sales will also be in the spotlight. The end of the week is relatively quiet on the earnings side, with Cinemark (CNK) and Deere (DE) reporting.
