Apple Leads Tech Giants Into Another Thick Earnings Slate

A Fed meeting, jobs data, and Brexit will be in focus

Traders are gearing up for another busy few days of earnings, with Apple's (AAPL) quarterly report due right in the middle of the week. Fellow tech concerns Alphabet (GOOGL) and Facebook (FB) are also set to release their numbers, while reports from names like Merck (MRK) and Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMY) will put the healthcare sector in focus. The economic calendar is also full, with a Fed meeting and the October jobs report the marquee events.

Below is a brief list of some key market events scheduled for the upcoming week. All earnings dates listed below are tentative and subject to change. Please check with each company's respective website for official reporting dates.

For Monday, Oct. 28, international trade in goods data is due. Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA), AT&T (T), Akamai Technologies (AKAM), GOOGL, Beyond Meat (BYND), Diamond Offshore (DO), Loews (L), NXP Semiconductor (NXPI), Spotify (SPOT), Texas Roadhouse (TXRH), T-Mobile (TMUS), Transocean (RIG), XPO Logistics (XPO), and Xerox (XRX) will report earnings.

The Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) will kick off its two-day policy-setting meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 29. The S&P CoreLogic-Case Shiller home price index, consumer confidence, and pending home sales will also be released.

Earnings will be coming from blue-chip pharmaceutical firms MRK and Pfizer (PFE). Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Amgen (AMGN), AutoNation (AN), BP (BP), Boston Beer (SAM), Cheesecake Factory (CAKE), ConocoPhillips (COP), Corning (GLW), Cummins (CMI), Electronic Arts (EA), Exact Sciences (EXAS), FireEye (FEYE), General Motors (GM), GrubHub (GRUB), Incyte (INCY), Ingersoll-Rand (IR), Kellogg (K), Mastercard (MA), Mattel (MAT), Public Storage (PSA), Shopify (SHOP), Stryker (SYK), and Yum China (YUMC) will also report earnings. 

The ADP private payrolls report, the advance reading on third-quarter gross domestic product (GDP), and weekly crude inventories come out on Wednesday, Oct. 30. Additionally, the Fed will release its latest policy announcement at 2 p.m. ET, followed by a press conference from Fed Chair Jerome Powell.

AAPL, 3D Systems (DDD), Acadia Pharmaceuticals (ACAD), AK Steel (AKS), Automatic Data Processing (ADP), Cirrus Logic (CRUS), Cree (CREE), Crocs (CROX), Etsy (ETSY), FB, Garmin (GRMN), Legg Mason (LM), McKesson (MCK), MGM Resorts (MGM), Moody's (MCO), Pilgrim's Pride (PPC), Starbucks (SBUX), Sony (SNE), Starbucks (SBUX), Tupperware (TUP), Universal Display (OLED), Vertex Pharmaceuticals (VRTX), Wingstop (WING), Yum! Brands (YUM), and Zynga (ZNGA) make up the earnings calendar. 

Thursday, Oct. 31, brings weekly jobless claims, personal income and spending data, as well as the employment cost index (ECI). The Chicago purchasing managers index (PMI) is also expected. This is also the Brexit deadline for the U.K. to leave the European Union (EU), though an extension may be granted.

For earnings, Alteryx (AYX), Altria (MO), BorgWarner (BWA), BMY, CDW (CDW), Cigna (CI), Clorox (CLX), Delphi Technologies (DLPH), Dunkin (DNKN), DuPont (DD), El Pollo Loco (LOCO), Estee Lauder (EL), Fortinet (FTNT), Fluor (FLR), IMAX (IMAX), Kraft Heinz (KHC), Live Nation (LYV), Pinterest (PINS), Royal Caribbean (RCL), Sirius XM (SIRI), Wayfair (W), World Wrestling (WWE), Western Union (WU), and YETI (YETI) will release their results.

The slate for Friday, Nov. 1, has the monthly jobs report, Markit's manufacturing PMI, the Institute for Supply Management's (ISM) manufacturing index, and construction spending. New York Fed President John Williams is slated to speak.

Earnings from Chevron (CVX), Exxon Mobil (XOM), AbbVie (ABBV), Alibaba (BABA), Cboe Global Markets (CBOE), Cheniere Energy (LNG), Colgate-Palmolive (CL), LyondellBasell (LYB), Newell Brands (NWL), and U.S. Steel (X) are also due.
