The two-day Fed meeting kicks off on Tuesday
After weeks of anticipation, the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) will meet again and decide what to do with interest rates. With the market largely expecting a cut in interest rates, investors will also be clued in for the post-meeting remarks from Fed Chair Jerome Powell on Wednesday. In addition to the Fed meeting, next week features quadruple witching on Friday, as well as earnings reports from Adobe Systems (ADBE), FedEx (FDX), and General Mills (GIS).
Below is a brief list of some key market events scheduled for the upcoming week. All earnings dates listed below are tentative and subject to change. Please check with each company's respective website for official reporting dates.
There's not much to report for Monday, Sept. 16, with the Empire State manufacturing index on tap and no earnings of note on deck.
The Fed meeting kicks off on Tuesday, Sept. 17, but there will also be data on industrial production, the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) housing market index, and treasury international capital. Earnings reports from ADBE, Chewy (CHWY), Cracker Barrel (CBRL), and FDX are also due.
Wednesday, Sept. 18 marks the end of the Fed meeting, along with a press conference from Fed Chair Powell. In addition, housing starts, and weekly crude inventories are on deck. Earnings from GIS are on the docket.
Thursday, Sept. 19, features existing home sales, the Fed's balance sheet, and weekly jobless claims. Traders can expect quarterly reports from Darden Restaurants (DRI) and United Natural Foods (UNFI).
Quadruple witching will occur Friday, Sept. 20. There are no earnings reports of note.
