A handful of retailers will report quarterly results
While earnings season is winding down, a few big names will be on the docket this week, including blue chips Walmart (WMT) and Cisco Systems (CSCO). Several marijuana names will be stepping into the earnings confessional, too, including Tilray (TLRY) and Canopy Growth (CGC). The latest inflation data could make noise in light of the Fed's first rate cut in years, and investors will dissect import and export data in the wake of the U.S.-China trade war.
Below is a brief list of some key market events scheduled for the upcoming week. All earnings dates listed below are tentative and subject to change. Please check with each company's respective website for official reporting dates.
The week's economic calendar will kick off with the Treasury budget on Monday, Aug. 12. Barrick Gold (GOLD), HUYA (HUYA), Sysco (SYY), and Tencent Music (TME) are all scheduled to report earnings.
Tuesday, Aug. 13, will bring the monthly consumer price index (CPI). Earnings reports from Advanced Auto Parts (AAP), Brinker International (EAT), II-VI (IIVI), JD.com (JD), JinkoSolar Holding (JKS), and Tilray (TLRY) are due out.
The latest import and export stats will be released on Wednesday, Aug. 14, and investors will monitor the Energy Information Administration's (EIA) weekly crude inventories report. On the earnings front, Cisco Systems (CSCO), CannTrust (CTST), Canopy Growth (CGC), Luckin Coffee (LK), Macy's (M), Madison Square Garden (MSG), and NetApp (NTAP) will all unveil their quarterly results.
Monthly retail sales, the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) housing market index, as well as data on industrial production, business inventories, New York-area manufacturing, and weekly jobless claims are due out on Thursday, Aug. 15. Walmart (WMT), Nvidia (NVDA), Alibaba (BABA), J.C. Penney (JCP), NIO (NIO), Tapestry (TPR), and Dillard's (DDS), will all enter the earnings confessional.
Data on housing starts and consumer sentiment will be released on Friday, Aug. 16. Earnings from Deere (DE) are also set for release.
