Earnings, U.S.-China Trade Talks in Focus Ahead of Shutdown Deadline

Earnings season is continuing with gusto, as Dow names Cisco Systems (CSCO) and Coca-Cola (KO) step up to the plate next week. We'll also hear from semiconductor firms Nvidia (NVDA) and Applied Materials (AMAT). Plus, investors will digest a round of inflation data, while several Fed speakers will take the mic. 

U.S.-China trade relations will be in focus, too, as President Donald Trump's team heads to Beijing to further ongoing trade discussions. Back home, the clock is ticking on another government shutdown, with the funding deadline set for midnight on Friday, Feb. 15. 

Below is a brief list of some key market events scheduled for the upcoming week. All earnings dates listed below are tentative and subject to change. Please check with each company's respective website for official reporting dates. 

The week will start slow on Monday, Feb. 11, withno economic data or Fed speakers on tap. Aurora Cannabis (ACB), Baidu (BIDU), Chegg (CHGG), Diamond Offshore Drilling (DO), and Vipshop (VIPS) will report earnings.

On Tuesday, Feb. 12, traders will digest the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS). Kansas City Fed President Esther George and Cleveland Fed President Loretta Mester are expected to speak after the close. As far as earnings, Activision Blizzard (ATVI), Akamai Technologies (AKAM), Fossil (FOSL), Groupon (GRPN), Intercept Pharmacueticals (ICPT), Molson Coors Brewing (TAP), Shopify (SHOP), TripAdvisor (TRIP), Twilio (TWLO), and Under Armour (UAA) all report today.

The consumer price index (CPI), the weekly crude inventories report, and the Treasury budget are due on Wednesday, Feb. 13.Mester will take the stage again, along with Atlanta Fed President Raphael Bostic in the morning. Quarterly earnings from Dow name Cisco Systems (CSCO), CenturyLink (CTL), Hilton Hotels (HLT), Marathon Oil (MRO) MGM Resorts (MGM), NetApp (NTAP), SunPower (SPWR), Teva Pharmaceutical (TEVA), and Yelp (YELP) are all slated for release. 

Thursday, Feb. 14, will bring weekly jobless claims and the Fed balance sheet. There will also be the producer price index (PPI), retail sales, and business inventories. Blue chip Coca-Cola (KO), Applied Materials (AMAT), Bloomin' Brands (BLMN), Canada Goose (GOOS), Canopy Growth (CGC), CyberArk Software (CYBR), Incyte (INCY), Nvidia (NVDA), Waste Management (WM), Yeti (YETI), XPO Logistics (XPO), and Zoetis (ZTS) all step into the earnings confessional.

It's a busy day of economic data on Friday, Feb. 15. The Empire State manufacturing survey, Baker-Hughes rig count, and industrial production data are due out. There will also be updates on import and export prices and consumer sentiment. Bostic will speak once more in the morning. Deere (DE), Kraft Heinz (KHC), Newell Brands (NWL), and PepsiCo (PEP) will finish a busy earnings week.
