Blue-chip Walt Disney will also report next week
Earnings season continues with FAANG member Alphabet (GOOG) entering the earnings confessional, as well as social media heavyweights Snap (SNAP) and Twitter (TWTR). Dow member Walt Disney (DIS) will also report earnings next week. Outside of earnings, Fed Chair Jerome Powell will garner attention a week after the central bank suggested it could alter the shrinking of its balance sheet, given "economic and financial developments."
Below is a brief list of some key market events scheduled for the upcoming week. All earnings dates listed below are tentative and subject to change. Please check with each company's respective website for official reporting dates.
The busy week will start on Monday, Feb. 4, with data on motor vehicle sales and factory orders. Cleveland Fed President Loretta Mester will speak. Google parent Alphabet (GOOG) is slated to report earnings, along with Beazer Homes (BZH), Clorox, (CLX), Gilead Sciences (GILD), Glu Mobile (GLUU), Seagate Technology (STX), and Sysco (SYY).
On Tuesday, Feb. 5, traders will monitor the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) non-manufacturing index. Blue chip Walt Disney (DIS) will step into the earnings confessional, as well as Snapchat parent Snap (SNAP), 21st Century Fox (FOXA), Allstate (ALL), BP (BP), Electronic Arts (EA), Lumentum (LITE), Ralph Lauren (RL), Skyworks Solutions (SWKS), Tableau Software (DATA), and Viacom (VIAB),
The international trade and weekly crude inventories reports are due on Wednesday, Feb. 6. Fed Chairman Jerome Powell will speak that evening. Quarterly earnings from Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG), Eli Lilly (LLY), General Motors (GM), GoPro (GPRO), Humana (HUM), New York Times (NYT), Skechers USA (SKX), Spotify (SPOT), Take-Two Interactive Software (TTWO), and Zynga (ZNGA) are slated for release.
Thursday, Feb. 7, will bring weekly jobless claims and the Fed balance sheet. St. Louis Fed President James Bullard will speak after the close. Twitter (TWTR), Dunkin (DNKN), Fiat Chrysler (FCAU), GrubHub (GRUB), Kellogg (K), Mattel (MAT), PG&E (PGC), Qorvo (QRVO), T-Mobile US (TMUS), Tapestry (TPR), Tyson Foods (TSN), and Yum! Brands (YUM) will all report earnings.
It will be relatively quiet on the economic front on Friday, Feb. 8. Cleveland-Cliffs (CLF), Coty (COTY), and Hasbro (HAS) will finish a busy earnings week.
