Fed Minutes in Focus; Delta to Report Earnings

Weed concerns STZ and APHA could also move after earnings

The Fed's December meeting minutes will be released next Wednesday, with Wall Street looking for clues to the pace of future rate hikes. In addition, several Fed members will be speaking throughout the week, and traders will digest the latest inflation and international trade data. Earnings will begin to pick up, with Delta Air Lines (DAL) and weed names Constellation Brands (STZ) and Aphria (APHA) among the notables reporting.

Below is a brief list of some key market events scheduled for the upcoming week. All earnings dates listed below are tentative and subject to change. Please check with each company's respective website for official reporting dates. 

The week will begin relatively quiet, with Monday, Jan. 7, bringing information on factory orders and the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) non-manufacturing index. Atlanta Fed President Raphael Bostic will speak. Commercial Metals (CMC) will report earnings. 

On Tuesday, Jan. 8, Wall Street will see international trade stats and the Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS). Helen of Troy (HELE) is set to announce quarterly earnings. 

The weekly crude inventories report and the the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting minutes are slated for Wednesday, Jan. 9. Raphael Bostic will speak once again. Boston Fed President Eric Rosengren and Chicago Fed President Charles Evans will also speak. It will be the heaviest day for earnings next week, with Acuity Brands (AYI), Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBY), Constellation Brands (STZ), Delta Air Lines (DAL), KB Home (KBH), Lennar (LEN), and WD-40 (WDFC) stepping into the earnings confessional. 

Thursday, Jan 10, will feature weekly jobless claims and the Fed balance sheet. Evans, Richmond Fed President Tom Barkin, and St. Louis Fed President James Bullard will speak. Quarterly earnings reports are expected from Synnex (SNX). 

For Friday, Jan. 11, traders will digest the consumer price index (CPI), along with the Treasury budget. Earnings are due out from Aphria (APHA).
