The highly anticipated payrolls report could have rate-hike implications
Next week is all about jobs. The ADP's private-sector payrolls report will get the ball rolling on Wednesday, followed by weekly jobless claims on Thursday, and the highly anticipated nonfarm payrolls report on Friday, which could have Fed rate-hike implications. And speaking of the Fed, New York Fed President William Dudley is among the central bankers slated for speeches. Meanwhile, retail earnings continue to trickle in, with reports expected from Target (TGT), Urban Outfitters (URBN), Costco (COST), Dollar Tree (DLTR), and Sears Holdings (SHLD), among others.
Below is a brief list of some key market events scheduled for the upcoming week. All earnings dates listed below are tentative and subject to change. Please check with each company's respective website for official reporting dates.
Monday, March 5, starts the week off with the Markit purchasing managers index (PMI) and the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) non-manufacturing index. Earnings are anticipated from Ascena Retail Group (ASNA), Casey's General Stores (CASY), JinkoSolar (JKS), and Navistar (NAV).
Looking at Tuesday, March 6, New York Fed President William Dudley will speak before the open, and data on factory orders is expected. AeroVironment (AVAV), Autodesk (ADSK), Cars.com (CARS), Children's Place (PLCE), Ciena (CIEN), H & R Block, Medifast (MED), PTC Therapeutics (PTCT), Ross Stores (ROST), Spectrum Pharmaceuticals (SPPI), Target, T2 Biosystems (TTOO), and Urban Outfitters fill the earnings slate.
Wednesday, March 7, is a busy day on the economic news front, with the ADP employment report, MBA mortgage index, weekly crude inventories, Fed's Beige Book, international trade data, productivity and costs, and consumer credit report expected. Meanwhile, Dudley and and Atlanta Fed President Raphael Bostic will speak. Earnings are due from Abercrombie & Fitch (ANF), Caesars Entertainment (CZR), Costco, Dollar Tree, Momo (MOMO), Plug Power (PLUG), Rosetta Stone (RST), Sears, and Thor Industries (THO).
On Thursday, March 8, traders can expect data on weekly jobless claims, chain store sales, and the Fed's balance sheet.
