Payrolls, Fed Compete With Apple, Facebook Earnings

A number of tech heavyweights will report earnings, including Apple, Facebook, and AMD

It's set to be a busy one on the earnings front next week, with tech heavyweights Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) set to unveil their highly anticipated reports. There's plenty to be found on the economic side of the docket, as well. In addition to a Fed meeting -- and subsequent interest-rate decision -- the nonfarm payrolls report will be released on Friday. 

Below is a brief list of some key market events scheduled for the upcoming week. All earnings dates listed below are tentative and subject to change. Please check with each company's respective website for official reporting dates.

The week kicks off on Monday, May 1, with the latest personal income and spending data. The Markit purchasing managers manufacturing index (PMI), the Institute for Supply Management's (ISM) manufacturing index, and construction spending are also slated for release. Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Agrium (AGU), BroadSoft (BSFT), Cardinal Health (CAH), Chemours (CC), Community Health (CYH), Expeditors International of Washington (EXPD), GGP Inc (GGP), Noble Energy (NBL), and Tenet Healthcare (THC) are scheduled to report earnings.

On Tuesday, May 2, Wall Street will see data on monthly auto sales. Additionally, the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) will begin its two-day policy-setting meeting. The earnings confessional will be busy, with results from Apple (AAPL), Merck (MRK), Pfizer (PFE),  Aetna (AET), Akamai Technologies (AKAM), Altria (MO), Charter Communications (CHTR), Coach (COH), ConocoPhillips (COP), CVS Health (CVS), Etsy (ETSY), FireEye (FEYE), First Solar (FSLR), Gilead Sciences (GILD), MasterCard (MA), Mosaic (MOS), Mylan (MYL), Myriad Genetics (MYGN), Terex (TEX), Twilio (TWLO), and Weight Watchers (WTW) due.

The ADP private-sector employment update will be released on Wednesday, May 3, along with the ISM non-manufacturing index and weekly crude inventories update. The FOMC will release its latest policy announcement at 2 p.m. ET. It will be an active day for earnings, too, with Facebook (FB), Tesla (TSLA), 3D Systems (DDD), Angie's List (ANGI), Annaly Capital Management (NLY), Avis Budget (CAR), Cheesecake Factory (CAKE), Cirrus Logic (CRUS), Clorox (CLX), Fitbit (FIT), Garmin (GRMN), Glu Mobile (GLUU), Groupon (GRPN), Humana (HUM), Level 3 Communications (LVLT), Molson Coors (TAP), Nu Skin (NUS), Reynolds American (RAI), Sprint (S), Tableau Software (DATA), Time Warner (TWX), Williams Companies (WMB), and Yum! Brands (YUM) among the many names reporting.

The economic calendar is chock-full on Thursday, May 4, with weekly jobless claims, international trade data, as well as productivity and labor costs all set for release at 8:30 a.m. ET. Meanwhile, factory orders are due at 10 a.m. ET. Among those stepping up to the earnings plate are Activision Blizzard (ATVI), AmerisourceBergen (ABC), Avon Products (AVP), Beazer Homes (BZH), CBS Corp (CBS), Cheniere Energy (LNG), Chesapeake Energy (CHK), Consolidated Edison (ED), Dunkin Brands (DNKN), El Pollo Loco (LOCO), Gogo (GOGO), Herbalife (HLF), Infinera (INFN), Kellogg (K), Monster Beverage (MNST), Motorola (MSI), Shake Shack (SHAK), Viacom (VIAB), World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), Zillow (ZG), and Zynga (ZNGA).

The Labor Department's nonfarm payrolls report for April will headline the action on Friday, May 5. A speech from Fed Vice Chair Stanley Fischer, as well as a policy panel and Q&A session with St. Louis Fed President James Bullard, Chicago Fed President Charles Evans, and Boston Fed President Eric Rosengren are likely to draw attention. Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A), Cigna (CI), E.W. Scripps (SSP), and MSG Networks (MSGN) will report earnings.
