Netflix, Dow Stocks Highlight First Full Week of Earnings Season

On top of earnings from Netflix and Dow stocks Goldman Sachs and Visa, traders will digest the Fed's Beige Book

Next week marks the first full week of earnings season, with the calendar featuring a number of Dow stocks. Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) will get the ball rolling on Tuesday, with UnitedHealth Group Inc (NYSE:UNH) and Visa Inc (NYSE:V) among the other blue chips scheduled to report. Streaming entertainment stock Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) is also a notable name featured on the earnings calendar, along with United Continental Holdings Inc (NYSE:UAL), as it tries to divert attention away from last week's PR disaster. On the economic front, traders will digest updates on the housing sector, and get a look at the Fed's Beige Book on Wednesday. 

Below is a brief list of some key market events scheduled for the upcoming week. All earnings dates listed below are tentative and subject to change. Please check with each company's respective website for official reporting dates.

The week kicks off on Monday, April 17, with the Empire State manufacturing survey, the NAHB housing market index, and Treasury International Capital (TIC) data. As for earnings, Barracuda Networks (CUDA), J.B. Hunt Transport (JBHT), NFLX, and UAL will report. 

On Tuesday, April 18, housing starts will be released, along with the latest industrial production data. Elsewhere, Kansas City Fed President Esther George will speak. GS, International Business Machines (IBM), Johnson & Johnson (JNJ), UNH, Bank of America (BAC), Charles Schwab (SCHW), GNC (GNC), Harley-Davidson (HOG), Intuitive Surgical (ISRG), Lam Research (LRCX), Navient (NAVI), and Progressive (PGR) will present earnings. 

The regularly scheduled update on domestic crude inventories will come out on Wednesday, April 19, as will the Fed's Beige Book. Boston Fed President Eric Rosengren will speak in the afternoon. American Express (AXP), Abbott Laboratories (ABT), Canadian Pacific (CP), CSX (CSX), eBay (EBAY), Morgan Stanley (MS), Qualcomm (QCOM), Steel Dynamics (STLD), TD Ameritrade (AMTD), and United Rentals (URI) make up the earnings slate.  

On top of weekly jobless claims, the Philadelphia Fed business outlook survey comes out on Thursday, April 20. Reporting earnings will be Travelers (TRV), Verizon (VZ), V, Blackstone (BX), D.R. Horton (DHI), E*Trade (ETFC), Mattel (MAT), Nucor (NUE), Philip Morris International (PM), Quest Diagnostics (DGX), and Sherwin-Williams (SHW).

Minnesota Fed President Neel Kashkari will speak the morning of Friday, April 21. As for economic data, the Markit flash composite purchasing managers index (PMI) and existing home sales come out. General Electric (GE), Honeywell (HON), Rockwell Collins (COL), Schlumberger (SLB), and Stanley Black & Decker (SWK) round out earnings for the week.
