Nike Earnings, Yellen Speech Take Focus

Fed Chair Janet Yellen will speak on Thursday, while the earnings slate is dominated by Nike and Micron Technology

Several regional Fed presidents are set to take the mic, coming off the Federal Open Market Committee's (FOMC) decision to raise interest rates. What's more, Fed Chair Janet Yellen will speak on Thursday. For earnings, the calendar remains light, but there are some notable reports, including blue chip Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) on Tuesday. Another earnings report that'll attract interest will come on Thursday, when semiconductor firm Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ:MU) releases quarterly results. 

Below is a brief list of some key market events scheduled for the upcoming week. All earnings dates listed below are tentative and subject to change. Please check with each company's respective website for official reporting dates.

The schedule for Monday, March 20 features a speech from Chicago Fed President Charles Evans. There are no earnings reports worth noting.

On Tuesday, March 21, Kansas City Fed President Esther George will speak, as will Cleveland Fed President Loretta Mester. NKE, FedEx (FDX), Canadian Solar (CSIQ), General Mills (GIS), Lennar (LEN), and Silver Wheaton (SLW) will release earnings.  

The weekly update on domestic crude inventories comes out on Wednesday, March 22, as does existing home sales. Retailers Five Below (FIVE), Perry Ellis (PERY), and PVH Corp (PVH) will report earnings, as will Winnebago (WGO).

On Thursday, March 23, jobless claims and new home sales will be released. More notably, however, Fed Chair Janet Yellen will speak in the morning, while Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari will speak later in the day. For earnings, MU, Accenture (ACN), ConAgra (CAG), GameStop (GME), KB Home (KBH), and Shoe Carnival (SCVL) will report. 

The Markit flash purchasing managers manufacturing index (PMI) and durable goods orders come out on Friday, March 24. Evans will speak once again, as will St. Louis Fed President James Bullard and San Francisco Fed President John Williams. Finish Line (FINL) will wrap up the week's earnings reports.
