Wall Street Gets Ready For GDP Data, Yellen Speech

Next week, traders will digest the latest GDP data, as well as speeches from several Fed presidents

It's a big week for economic data and earnings. Investors are eagerly awaiting Tuesday's release of gross domestic product (GDP) data. Plus, key central bank officials will speak throughout the week, capped by remarks from Fed Chair Janet Yellen on Friday afternoon. Meanwhile, retailers and drugmakers will dominate the earnings docket, with Target Corporation (NYSE:TGT) and Valeant Pharmaceuticals Intl Inc (NYSE:VRX) among the stocks grabbing the most attention.

Below is a brief list of some key market events scheduled for the upcoming week. All earnings dates listed below are tentative and subject to change. Please check with each company's respective website for official reporting dates.

The economic calendar starts on Monday, Feb. 27, with durable goods orders, the pending home sales index, and a speech from Dallas Fed President Robert Kaplan. Hitting the earnings confessional are AmTrust Financial (AFSI), Gogo (GOGO), Hertz (HTZ), JinkoSolar (JKS), Novavax (NVAX), Priceline (PCLN), Sotheby's (BID), Tenet Healthcare (THC), and Workday (WDAY).

On Tuesday, Feb. 28, the second estimate of fourth-quarter GDP reading will hit the Street, followed by international trade data, the S&P CoreLogic Case-Shiller home price index, the Chicago purchasing managers index (PMI), and the Conference Board's consumer confidence survey. Plus, Kansas City Fed President Esther George, San Francisco Fed President John Williams, and St. Louis Fed President James Bullard will speak.

A number of companies are headed to the earnings stage, including 3D Systems (DDD), ACADIA Pharmaceuticals (ACAD), Ambarella (AMBA), AutoZone (AZO), Domino's (DPZ), Etsy (ETSY), Halozyme Therapeutics (HALO), Palo Alto Networks (PANW), Ross Stores (ROST), salesforce.com (CRM), Sarepta Therapeutics (SRPT), SeaWorld (SEAS), TGT, TASER International (TASR), VRX, and Weight Watchers (WTW).

Being released on Wednesday, March 1, are motor vehicle sales, personal income and spending data, the purchasing managers manufacturing index (PMI), the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) manufacturing index, construction spending, weekly crude inventories, and the Fed's Beige Book. On top of that, Dallas Fed President Robert Kaplan is scheduled to give a speech.

American Eagle (AEO), Best Buy (BBY), Broadcom (AVGO), Crocs (CROX), Dollar Tree (DLTR), Juno Therapeutics (JUNO), Lowe's (LOW), Monster Beverage (MNST), Office Depot (ODP), and Shake Shack (SHAK) will report quarterly earnings.

On the docket for Thursday, March 2, are weekly jobless claims and a speech from Cleveland Fed President Loretta Mester. Stepping up to the earnings mic are Abercrombie & Fitch (ANF), Anheuser Busch (BUD), Autodesk (ADSK), Barnes & Noble (BKS), Burlington Stores (BURL), Costco (COST), JD.com (JD), Kroger (KR), and Marvell Technology (MRVL).

Wrapping up the week's economic lineup on Friday, March 3, is the ISM services index, plus speeches from Fed Vice Chair Stanley Fischer, Chicago Fed President Charles Evans, Richmond Fed President Jeffrey Lacker, and Fed Chair Janet Yellen. There's nothing worth noting on the earnings front.
