LL, EYEG, TRVN are among the stocks in the news today
U.S. stocks are higher, as traders cheer upbeat retail earnings. Among specific equities in focus are hardwood retailer Lumber Liquidators Holdings Inc (NYSE:LL), as well as biotech stocks Eyegate Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:EYEG) and Trevena Inc (NASDAQ:TRVN). Here's a quick look at what's driving LL, EYEG, and TRVN shares.
Lumber Liquidators Pops After Earnings
LL is up 10.3% at $16.94, after the company reported better-than-expected earnings. LL shares recently found a floor at their 320-day moving average, and are set to topple their 50-day trendline for the first time in 2017, up 7.2% year-to-date. Lumber Liquidators Holdings Inc short sellers may find themselves increasingly under water, with shorted shares accounting for 29.7% of LL's float, which would take more than three weeks to cover, at LL's average daily volume.
Valeant Licensing Agreement Bumps Eyegate
EYEG is up 32.8% at $2.23, after the company announced a licensing agreement with Valeant Pharmaceuticals Intl Inc (NYSE:VRX) for its Eyegate II Delivery System, intended to help post-surgical ocular pain. Under terms of the agreement, VRX will pay Eyegate Pharmaceuticals Inc $4 million up front, with $99 million in eligible milestone payments. EYEG is still down 25% year-over-year, but is set to conquer its 200-day moving average for the first time since June. Short sellers may be sweating, with short interest up 23.7% over the last two reporting periods.
Trevena Drops On Drug Data
TRVN is down 31.4% at $4.89, following mixed drug data, with TRVN's opioid painkiller outperforming a placebo during late-stage trials, though only some doses were found to be as effective as morphine. TRVN is down more than 38% since hitting a ceiling near the $8 mark earlier this month, set to close at its lowest point since the presidential election. In the options pits, near-term options players have been unusually call-skewed towards the stock, with Trevena Inc's Schaeffer's put/call open interest ratio (SOIR) of 0.31 sitting lower than 84% of all other readings from the last year.
