It’s set to be a slow week in terms of both economic and earnings reports -- a typical state of affairs for the holiday-shortened week. When markets reopen after Labor Day, traders can look forward to the release of the Federal Reserve's Beige Book on Wednesday, which may provide more clues regarding the timing of the Fed's next interest rate hike. Meanwhile, a relatively quiet earnings schedule will feature several retail stocks, as well as tech names like Marvell Technology Group Ltd. (NASDAQ:MRVL) and Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co (NYSE:HPE).

Below is a brief list of some key market events scheduled for the upcoming week. All earnings dates listed below are tentative and subject to change. Please check with each company's respective website for official reporting dates.

Monday, September 5

Markets in the U.S. will be closed Monday in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

Tuesday, September 6

The only major economic report due Tuesday is the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) non-manufacturing index. San Francisco Fed President John Williams will give a speech in the evening. Kicking off the week's earnings calendar will be Dave & Buster's (PLAY) and MRVL.

Wednesday, September 7

The Labor Department's Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) and the Fed's Beige Book will be the main highlights on Wednesday. Among the companies due to report quarterly earnings are Francesca's (FRAN), FuelCell Energy (FCEL), and HPE.

Thursday, September 8

Weekly jobless claims and the holiday-delayed U.S. crude inventories report are due for release on Thursday. Taking a turn in the earnings confessional will be Barnes & Noble (BKS), Conn's (CONN), Finisar (FNSR), and Zumiez (ZUMZ).

Friday, September 9

There are no major economic reports due Friday, but Boston Fed President Eric Rosengren is set to speak before the market opens. Wrapping up the week's lineup of earnings reports will be Hovnanian (HOV), Kroger (KR), and MFRM.
