Following a week's worth of hawkish Fed talk, all eyes are on next Friday's nonfarm payrolls report
With
hawkish Fed talk dominating the headlines this week, next week's jobs data has become all the more important ahead of the central bank's late-September policy-setting meeting. Updates on U.S. employment start to roll in on Wednesday with the ADP private-sector report, with the action culminating Friday morning with the release of the Labor Department's nonfarm payrolls report.
Additionally, although the bulk of earnings season has passed, there's still plenty of action for stocks to react to ahead of the long holiday weekend. Specifically, retailers will continue to roll through the earnings turnstile -- following strong reactions for retail stocks
Best Buy Co Inc (NYSE:BBY) and
Express, Inc. (NYSE:EXPR) this week -- with notable names
Abercrombie & Fitch Co. (NYSE:ANF),
Chico's FAS, Inc. (NYSE:CHS), and
Five Below Inc (NASDAQ:FIVE) among those slated to report.

Monday, August 29
Personal income and spending outlays, as well as the Dallas Fed manufacturing survey are due out Monday. The earnings calendar is bare.
Tuesday, August 30
Tuesday's economic docket features the S&P/Case-Shiller home price index, as well as the Conference Board's consumer confidence index. ANF, AeroVironment (AVAV), Bob Evans (BOBE), DSW (DSW), G-III Apparel (GIII), and Palo Alto Networks (PANW) will report earnings.
Wednesday, August 31
The ADP private-sector employment report will the Street on Wednesday, as will the Chicago purchasing managers index (PMI), pending home sales, and the weekly crude inventories update. Meanwhile, Boston Fed President Eric Rosengren will deliver an overnight speech in Beijing, and Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari will speak stateside before the opening bell. Earnings from CHS, FIVE, Box Inc (BOX), Ctrip.com (CTRP), Ollie's Bargain Outlet (OLLI), and
salesforce.com (CRM) will be released.
Thursday, September 1
Thursday's busy economic calendar includes motor vehicle sales, weekly jobless claims, productivity and labor costs, Markit's PMI, the Institute for Supply Management's (ISM) manufacturing index, and construction spending. Additionally, Cleveland Fed President Loretta Mester will take the podium at midday.

All eyes will be on the Labor Department's payrolls report, while international trade data and factory orders are also due. Richmond Fed President Jeffrey Lacker is slated to deliver a speech at 1 p.m. ET. There are no notable earnings scheduled for Friday.
