With hawkish Fed talk dominating the headlines this week, next week's jobs data has become all the more important ahead of the central bank's late-September policy-setting meeting. Updates on U.S. employment start to roll in on Wednesday with the ADP private-sector report, with the action culminating Friday morning with the release of the Labor Department's nonfarm payrolls report.

Additionally, although the bulk of earnings season has passed, there's still plenty of action for stocks to react to ahead of the long holiday weekend. Specifically, retailers will continue to roll through the earnings turnstile -- following strong reactions for retail stocks Best Buy Co Inc (NYSE:BBY) and Express, Inc. (NYSE:EXPR) this week -- with notable names Abercrombie & Fitch Co. (NYSE:ANF)Chico's FAS, Inc. (NYSE:CHS), and Five Below Inc (NASDAQ:FIVE) among those slated to report.
