Traders will be looking for potential rate-hike clues in the release of minutes from last month's Fed meeting
The consumer price index (CPI) and last month's
Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting minutes will highlight the economic calendar, as traders look for clues as to the timing of the Fed's next rate hike -- particularly in the wake of the
last blowout payrolls report. Several Federal Reserve presidents will also give speeches throughout the week.
Highlighting the earnings schedule for a second week running will be retailers, led by
Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE:WMT) and Target Corporation (NYSE:TGT), while blue chips Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) and
Cisco Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) will also report.

Monday, August 15
The Empire State manufacturing survey, NAHB housing market index, and Treasury International Capital (TIC) data will kick off the week's economic reports. Sysco (SYY) and Vipshop (VIPS) will report quarterly earnings.
Tuesday, August 16
The CPI, housing starts and building permits, and industrial production figures will be reported on Tuesday, and Atlanta Fed President Dennis Lockhart will speak in the afternoon. Stepping into the earnings spotlight will be HD, Advanced Auto Parts (AAP), Cree (CREE), Dicks Sporting Goods (DKS), TJX Companies (TJX), and Urban Outfitters (URBN).
Wednesday, August 17
July's FOMC meeting minutes are due, along with the weekly crude inventories report from the Energy Information Administration (EIA). St. Louis Fed President James Bullard will give a speech. CSCO, Agilent (A), American Eagle Outfitters (AEO), Analog Devices (ADI), JA Solar (JASO), L Brands (LB), Lowe's (LOW), NetApp (NTAP), Staples (SPLS), and TGT are among the firms due to release earnings results.
Thursday, August 18
Weekly jobless claims and the Philadelphia Fed business outlook survey are due for release Thursday, and San Francisco Fed President John Williams will speak in the evening. Taking their turns in the earnings confessional will be WMT, Applied Materials (AMAT), Canadian Solar (CSIQ), Gap (GPS), Hormel Foods (HRL), Perry Ellis (PERY), and Ross Stores (ROST).
Friday, August 19
There are no major economic reports due on Friday. Reports from Buckle (BKE), Cheetah Mobile (CMCM), Deere (DE), Estee Lauder (EL), and
Foot Locker (FL) will round out the week's earnings calendar.
