Buzz Stocks: Sprint Corp, Yahoo! Inc., and SolarCity Corp

U.S. stocks are down as September-dated crude oil falls and investors look ahead to a huge week of earnings. Among equities in focus today are communications stock Sprint Corp (NYSE:S), internet interest Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO), and renewable energy supplier SolarCity Corp (NASDAQ:SCTY).

• S is up 12.5% at $5.20 -- an 11-month high -- after reporting better-than-expected revenue and the best fiscal first-quarter subscriber growth in nine years. Sprint Corp is up more than 50% year-over-year, and is sitting in territory not charted since August. There are probably more than a few option players happy this morning, with S's 10-day call/put volume ratio at the International Securities Exchange (ISE), Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE), and NASDAQ OMX PHLX (PHLX) sitting at 6.52, higher than 77% of all other readings from the past year.

• YHOO is down 1.7% at $38.71, after Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) announced a $4.8 billion deal to buy YHOO's core assets, confirming recent speculation. This does not include YHOO's stakes in Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (NYSE:BABA) or Yahoo Japan Corporation. YHOO recently broke out of the $36-$38 range, which had contained the shares since mid-March. YHOO is still up 16.5% year-to-date, and most analysts are optimistic, with 18 of 30 rating the shares a "buy" or better, and without a single "sell" to be found. 

• SCTY is up 3.4% at $27.36, amid reports that the solar energy stock is nearing a merger agreement with Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA). Late last week, Elon Musk waxed optimistic on the odds of the two companies' -- of which he is majority shareholder -- uniting. SolarCity Corp shares have added roughly 39% since their mid-May low, yet short interest in the stock is up nearly 5% over the last two reporting periods, with shorted shares now accounting for a hefty 39.6% of SCTY's float.
