Earnings season is set to hit its stride next week, with various big-name firms scheduled to announce quarterly results. Blue chips McDonald's Corporation (NYSE:MCD), Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) will get the ball rolling early in the week, with Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB), Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), and Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX) rounding things out in the latter half.

These high-profile earnings could be overshadowed by the two-day Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting, which will begin Tuesday. In the wake of Wednesday's latest policy-setting statement from the FOMC, traders will also keep a close eye on Friday's advance reading on fourth-quarter gross domestic product (GDP) to gauge the strength of the economy.
