The Week Ahead: Nike Inc., GDP Highlight Short Holiday Week

With the highly anticipated December Fed meeting out of the way and a long holiday weekend ahead, Wall Street could be a bit of a ghost town next week. The final third-quarter gross domestic product (GDP) reading and another round of housing data will highlight the economic side of the calendar, while blue chip Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) will be the featured earnings player.

Below is a brief list of some key market events scheduled for the upcoming week. All earnings dates listed below are tentative and subject to change. Please check with each company's respective website for official reporting dates. 

Monday, 12/21

There are no major economic or earnings reports scheduled for Monday. 

Tuesday, 12/22

The final third-quarter GDP figures will hit the Street on Tuesday, as will existing home sales for November. Nike Inc (NKE), Micron Technology (MU), ConAgra Foods Inc (CAG), and Paychex (PAYX) will report earnings.

Wednesday, 12/23

Traders will digest data on durable goods orders, personal income and spending, new home sales, and consumer sentiment, as well as the regularly scheduled crude inventories report. Cal-Maine Foods (CALM) will step up to the earnings plate.

Thursday, 12/24

Weekly jobless claims will be released before the bell. U.S. markets close at 1 p.m. ET for Christmas Eve.

Friday, 12/25

U.S. markets are shuttered for Christmas.
