Earnings season kicks off late in the week, as Alcoa (AA) reports quarterly results after the close on Thursday. On the economic front, the highlight of the week will be Thursday afternoon's release of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting minutes. Expect investors to pore over the minutes for any hint of a rate hike by the end of the year.

Below is a brief list of some key market events scheduled for the upcoming week. All earnings dates listed below are tentative and subject to change. Please check with each company's respective website for official reporting dates.

Monday, 10/5

Monday features the Institute for Supply Management's (ISM) non-manufacturing index, accompanied by Markit's services purchasing managers index (PMI). The lone company expected to report earnings is Container Store (TCS).

Tuesday, 10/6

News remains light on Tuesday, as we will be treated to the international trade balance and a speech from San Francisco Fed President John Williams. Beverage giant PepsiCo (PEP) will report earnings, as will Yum! Brands (YUM).

Wednesday, 10/7

Wednesday brings the weekly petroleum inventory report, as well as the Fed's consumer credit report. Acuity Brands (AYI), Constellation Brands (STZ), Global Payments (GPN), and Monsanto (MON) will step into the earnings confessional.

Thursday, 10/8

Weekly jobless claims and another speech by the San Francisco Fed's Williams are on tap for Thursday. As noted earlier, though, all eyes will be on the FOMC meeting minutes, set for release at 2 p.m. Eastern. Additionally, Minneapolis Fed President Narayana Kocherlakota is slated to speak.

As for earnings, AA will unofficially kick off third-quarter earnings season when it reports quarterly results after the closing bell sounds. Joining AA in the earnings spotlight are Domino's Pizza (DPZ), International Speedway (ISCA), and Ruby Tuesday (RT).

Friday, 10/9

Import and export prices, along with wholesale inventories, will be released Friday morning, while an afternoon speech from Chicago Fed President Charles Evans will likely attract attention. There are no earnings of note on the day's docket.
