With the Federal Reserve opting to stand pat on interest rates -- yet hinting that a rate hike could come by the end of the year -- the next rounds of economic data will be put under the microscope, including the final second-quarter gross domestic product (GDP) figures, which will hit the Street Friday. In addition, Wall Street will no doubt dissect a slew of Fed speeches on tap, particularly from Fed Chair Janet Yellen. Against this backdrop, a light earnings calendar will likely be on the back burner, though Dow component Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) and mobile mogul BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) will be among the featured backs.

Below is a brief list of some key market events scheduled for the upcoming week. All earnings dates listed below are tentative and subject to change. Please check with each company's respective website for official reporting dates.

Monday, 9/21

The week kicks off with the existing home sales report for August. Later in the afternoon, Atlanta Fed President Dennis Lockhart will speak in Atlanta.

Lennar (LEN) will report earnings and try to keep defy the Street's skepticism toward homebuilders. Software company Red Hat Inc (RHT) is also set to reveal its quarterly results.

Tuesday, 9/22

On Tuesday, the Federal Housing Finance Agency's (FHFA) housing price index and the Richmond Fed manufacturing index are slated for release. Lockhart will speak again -- this time after hours in Montgomery, Alabama.

AutoZone (AZO), Carnival (CCL), Carmax (KMX), ConAgra (CAG), and General Mills (GIS) will slip into the earnings confessional. Darden Restaurants (DRI) will also report earnings, making news like several of its sector mates.

Wednesday, 9/23

Wednesday brings about our weekly petroleum reports, along with the flash purchasing managers manufacturing index (PMI) for September. Lockhart will continue to make the rounds, speaking around midday in Columbus, Georgia.

There are no earnings of note.

Thursday, 9/24

Data on durable goods, initial jobless claims, new home sales, and Kansas City-area manufacturing will hit the Street. The highlight of the news day comes after the closing bell, when Fed Chair Janet Yellen will deliver a speech at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

As for earnings, Nike Inc (NKE), Accenture (ACN), KB Home (KBH), Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBY), and  Pier 1 Imports (PIR) will report. Meanwhile, Skechers (SKX) shareholders will vote on the company's 3-for-1 stock split.

Friday, 9/25

The final GDP reading for the second quarter will be released before the opening bell. The Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan consumer sentiment index will also be in play. Finally, Kansas City Fed President Esther George will deliver a speech on the economy and monetary policy in Omaha.

BlackBerry (BBRY) and Finish Line (FINL) will report quarterly results.
