It's a four-day week, but there are still a healthy number of earnings and economic reports on the schedule. Rate-hike obsessives will be keying in on the latest JOLTS report and producer-level inflation data, while a few sentiment surveys are also due out.

As for earnings, don't think you can sleep on quarterly reports just yet. While the pace has slowed somewhat, we can still look forward to results from the likes of Palo Alto Networks (PANW), Lululemon Athletica (LULU), Barnes & Noble (BKS), and Kroger (KR).

Of course, the big equity news for many next week will be Apple's (AAPL) Sept. 9 event, where some analysts are hoping the tech giant will finally shed light on Apple Watch sales -- which could spark active trading in rivals like Fitbit Inc (FIT), as well.

Below is a brief list of some key market events scheduled for the upcoming week. All earnings dates listed below are tentative and subject to change. Please check with each company's respective website for official reporting dates.

Monday, 9/7

U.S. markets are closed Monday in observance of Labor Day, so there are no major economic or earnings reports on the calendar.

Tuesday, 9/8

Tuesday's economic docket is light, with the NFIB small-business optimism index and the Fed's consumer credit report due out. On the earnings front, we'll hear from Dave & Buster's (PLAY), FuelCell Energy (FCEL), Men's Wearhouse (MW), Pacific Sunwear (PSUN), TiVo (TIVO), Triangle Petroleum (TPLM), and Yingli Green Energy (YGE).

Wednesday, 9/9

The Labor Department's Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) hits the Street on Wednesday. Barnes & Noble (BKS), Hovnanian Enterprises (HOV), Krispy Kreme Doughnuts (KKD), Ollie's Bargain Outlet (OLLI), Palo Alto Networks (PANW), Quiksilver (ZQK), Sigma Designs (SIGM), and Titan Machinery (TITN) are expected to report earnings.

Wednesday also marks the latest Apple (AAPL) product event. The keynote kicks off at 1 p.m. ET, with the Apple faithful expecting to hear about new versions of the iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and iOS (and probably at least "one more thing").

Thursday, 9/10

Weekly jobless claims, import and export prices, wholesale inventories, and the holiday-delayed update on domestic crude inventories will be released on Thursday. Quarterly results are due out from Finisar (FNSR), Lululemon Athletica (LULU), Peak Resorts (SKIS), Restoration Hardware (RH), and Zumiez (ZUMZ).

Friday, 9/11

Economic news continues to heat up Friday, with the day's schedule featuring the producer price index (PPI) and core PPI, the preliminary Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan consumer sentiment index, and the Treasury budget. The week's earnings slate draws to a close with reports from Kroger (KR) and Mattress Firm (MFRM).
