The Week Ahead: FOMC, Apple, Tesla Announcement

Next week's calendar features a FOMC policy meeting, as well as earnings from Apple Inc. (AAPL) and an announcement from Tesla Motors Inc (TSLA)

A Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) policy meeting and early first-quarter gross domestic product (GDP) figures highlight next week's hefty economic docket. Among the stocks reporting earnings are tech titans Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR); pharmaceutical firms Merck & Co., Inc. (NYSE:MRK), Pfizer Inc. (NYSE:PFE), Bristol-Myers Squibb Co (NYSE:BMY), Vertex Pharmaceuticals Incorporated (NASDAQ:VRTX), Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd (ADR) (NYSE:TEVA), and Momenta Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:MNTA); as well as commodity concerns Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM), Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX), AK Steel Holding Corporation (NYSE:AKS), BP plc (ADR) (NYSE:BP), Cliffs Natural Resources Inc (NYSE:CLF), United States Steel Corporation (NYSE:X),Yamana Gold Inc. (USA) (NYSE:AUY), Whiting Petroleum Corp (NYSE:WLL), and Agnico Eagle Mines Ltd (USA) (NYSE:AEM). Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) will also step into the limelight, scheduled to debut its new line of batteries at the end of the week.

Monday 4/27
The Dallas Fed's manufacturing survey will kick off the week. Apple (AAPL), Barrick Gold (ABX), Changyou.Com (CYOU), Overstock.com (OSTK), Restaurant Brands International (QSR), and Sohu.com (SOHU) will report earnings.

Tuesday 4/28
Tuesday's economic docket features the consumer confidence index and the S&P/Case-Shiller home price index. Additionally, the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) will kick-off its two-day policy-setting meeting. Merck (MRK), Pfizer (PFE), Ford (F), GoPro (GPRO), Sirius XM (SIRI), Twitter (TWTR), Aetna (AET), AK Steel (AKS), Akamai Technologies (AKAM), Boston Scientific (BSX), BP plc (BP), Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMY), Buffalo Wild Wings (BWLD), Cirrus Logic (CRUS), Cliffs Natural Resources (CLF), Coach (COH), Corning (GLW), Cummins (CMI), Express Scripts (ESRX), Genworth Financial (GNW), Group 1 Automotive (GPI), JetBlue Airways (JBLU), Kraft Foods (KRFT), Panera Bread (PNRA), SUPERVALU (SVU), T-Mobile (TMUS), UPS (UPS), U.S. Steel (X), Valero Energy (VLO), Western Digital (WDC), Whirlpool (WHR), Wolverine World Wide (WWW), Wyndham Worldwide (WYN), Wynn Resorts (WYNN), Yamana Gold (AUY), and Yandex N.V. Wednesday's packed economic docket includes the FOMC policy announcement, the advance reading on first-quarter GDP, pending home sales, and the weekly crude inventories update. Thursday 4/30
On Thursday, we'll see data on weekly jobless claims, personal income and spending, the employment cost index (ECI), and the Chicago purchasing managers index (PMI). Motor vehicle sales, Markit's PMI, the Institute for Supply Management's (ISM) manufacturing index, the Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan consumer sentiment index, and construction spending close out the week. Chevron (CVX), CVS Health (CVS), Momenta Pharmaceuticals (MNTA), Moody's (MCO), VF Corp (VFC), and Weyerhaeuser (WY) will report earnings.
