Is the stock market open on Memorial Day?

May 17, 2020, 13:57 PM

No. The major U.S. stock markets are closed on Memorial Day.

Both the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and Nasdaq are closed in observance of Memorial Day every year. As always, if any other markets are open on this day, please be cautious while trading on a U.S. market holiday due to lower trading volume and, thereby, lower liquidity. Click here for a list of all market holidays.

When is Memorial Day?

Memorial Day is observed annually on the last Monday of May. The next Memorial Day holiday will take place on Monday, May 25, 2020.

When Is the Stock Market Closed for Memorial Day?

The markets will be completely closed on Memorial Day (from 9:30 a.m. EST until 4:00 p.m. EST). The U.S. stock market will reopen as normal the following day on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. EST and close at 4:00 p.m. EST.

Normal market hours are 9:30 a.m. EST through 4:00 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday of every week. Following Memorial Day, the next market holiday (causing the markets to close) will be in observance of Independence Day.
