Is the stock market open on Independence Day (4th of July)?

Jun 2, 2020, 14:15 PM

No. The major U.S. stock markets are CLOSED on Independence Day.

Both the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and Nasdaq are closed in observance of Independence Day every year. As always, if any other markets are open on this day, please be cautious while trading on a U.S. market holiday due to lower trading volume and, thereby, lower liquidity. Click here for a list of all market holidays.

When is Independence Day?

Independence Day is observed annually on the 4th day of July. The next Independence Day holiday will take place on Saturday, July 4, 2020. Because the holiday falls on a weekend, the markets will be closed on Friday, July 3, 2020 in observance of the holiday.

When Is the Stock Market Closed for Independence Day?

The markets will always be completely closed on Independence Day every year. In 2020, the market will be closed for the full day (from 9:30 a.m. EST until 4:00 p.m. EST) on July 3, 2020. The U.S. stock market will reopen as normal the following week on Monday at 9:30 a.m. EST and close at 4:00 p.m. EST.

Normal market hours are 9:30 a.m. EST through 4:00 p.m. EST, Monday through Friday of every week. Following Independence Day, the next market holiday (causing the markets to close) will be in observance of Labor Day.
