We wish everyone a happy New Year! May 2022 be a year filled with health, wealth, and happiness for all of you.

There is no economic data to report today, as almost everything is closed in observance of the New Year's Day holiday, except the stock market.

There is no stock market holiday observed for New Year's Day in 2022. With the first day of the year falling on a Saturday, standard practice would be to observe the holiday on the Friday ahead of the weekend. However, the U.S. stock markets will be open regular hours on New Year's Eve and the bond market will close early at 2 p.m. ET that day. Because New Year's Day is a holiday usually celebrated by both markets, trading activity is usually fairly light surrounding the holiday.

There are no further public companies slated to release corporate earnings in 2021.

Looking ahead to next week, the first week of the year will kick off with a bang. Most notably, employment data will be at the forefront of investors' minds to start off 2022. Plus, as the start of the new quarter begins, several companies will report earnings, such as Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBY), Conagra (CAG), Constellation Brands (STZ), Jefferies (JEF), Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA), and WD-40 (WDFC).

When is the next stock market holiday? Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be observed on Monday, January 17, and the stock market will be closed for the full day.

All economic dates listed here are tentative and subject to change.
