Today's market-moving economic data and earnings schedule

With just three trading sessions left in 2021, the Goods Trades Balance, retail inventories, and the pending home sales index are due out today.

The following company is slated to release corporate earnings today, December 29:

FuelCell Energy Inc. (NASDAQ:FCEL -- $5.87) designs, manufactures, sells, installs, operates, and services stationary fuel cell power plants for distributed baseload power generation. FuelCell Energy will report its Q4 earnings of 2021 before the close today.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, the usual initial and continuing weekly jobless claims are scheduled for Thursday, along with the Chicago Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI).

According to the U.S. stock market holiday schedule, there will be no observed market holiday for New Year's Day of 2022. The Saturday holiday will result is no closures of U.S. stock markets. The stock market will be open both on Friday, December 31, and on Monday, January 3. This is an atypical year as, normally, if a holiday falls on a Saturday, it will be observed the day before (Friday).
