Third-quarter earnings season gets underway with aluminum giant AA, with bank stocks JPM, WFC, and C rounding out the week
Although
aluminum company Alcoa (AA) unofficially kicks off third-quarter earnings season with its report on Tuesday, the earnings slate is rather bare next week, save Friday. That's when banking giants
JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE:JPM),
Wells Fargo & Co (NYSE:WFC), and
Citigroup Inc (NYSE:C) will step into the earnings confessional. Meanwhile, the most notable economic report will be Wednesday's release of the Federal Open Market Committee's (FOMC) September meeting minutes, though traders will also be anxious to hear what Fed Chair Janet Yellen has to say during her speech on Friday.
Below is a brief list of some key market events scheduled for the upcoming week. All earnings dates listed below are tentative and subject to change. Please check with each company's respective website for official reporting dates.
Monday, October 10
There are no economic reports on Monday's slate, but Chicago Federal Reserve President Charles Evans will speak. There are also no notable earnings reports for the day.
Tuesday, October 11
The economic calendar is essentially bare on Tuesday, as well. AA earnings will hit the Street ahead of the opening bell, while Barracuda Networks (CUDA) will report later in the day.
Wednesday, October 12
Traders will finally get to sink their teeth into some economic data on Wednesday, when the Labor Department's Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) is released. This will be followed by the highly anticipated Fed meeting minutes from its September meeting. Kansas City Federal Reserve President Esther George will also speak. On the earnings front, CSX Corporation (CSX) will step up to the mic.
Thursday, October 13
Weekly jobless claims, import and export prices, weekly crude inventories, and the Treasury budget make up Thursday's economic docket. Philadelphia Federal Reserve President Patrick Harker is slated to speak in the afternoon. As for earnings, Progressive (PGR) and Taiwan Semiconductors (TSM) will be in the spotlight.
Friday, October 14
Friday is the busiest day of the week, highlighted by a midday speech from Fed Chair Janet Yellen. Boston Federal Reserve Bank President Eric Rosengren will speak, as well. On the data front, the producer price index (PPI), retail sales, business inventories, and consumer sentiment are all due out. JPM, WFC, and C
will release their quarterly results, as will Del Frisco's Restaurant Group (DFRG), Infosys (INFY), and PNC Financial (PNC).
