While the economic calendar is in for a rather quiet week, things are heating up fast on the earnings front. Several blue-chip stocks will be in the earnings spotlight, including International Business Machines (IBM), Johnson & Johnson (JNJ), American Express (AXP), and General Electric (GE). Meanwhile, multiple economic reports on the housing sector will be accompanied by earnings from homebuilders D.R. Horton (DHI) and PulteGroup (PHM), while other high-profile names like Starbucks (SBUX) and Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG) will also unveil quarterly results.  

Below is a brief list of some key market events scheduled for the upcoming week. All earnings dates listed below are tentative and subject to change. Please check with each company's respective website for official reporting dates.

Monday, July 18

The NAHB housing market index and Treasury International Capital (TIC) data will kick off the week's economic reports.

Stepping into the earnings confessional will be IBM, Bank of America (BAC), Netflix (NFLX), Cal-Maine Foods (CALM), EMC Corporation (EMC), Hasbro (HAS), Steel Dynamics (STLD), VMWare (VMW), and Yahoo! (YHOO).

Tuesday, July 19

Housing starts is the only major piece of economic news due Tuesday.

GS, JNJ, Microsoft (MSFT), UnitedHealth (UNH), Discover Financial (DFS), Lockheed Martin (LMT), Novartis (NVS), and United Continental (UAL) are among the firms set to report earnings.

Wednesday, July 20

The weekly crude inventory report from the Energy Information Administration (EIA) will highlight Wednesday's economic calendar.

Stepping up to the earnings plate will be AXP, Intel (INTC), Canadian Pacific (CP), eBay (EBAY), F5 Networks (FFIV), Halliburton (HAL), IMAX (IMAX), Mattel (MAT), Morgan Stanley (MS), Newmont Mining (NEM), QUALCOMM (QCOM), St. Jude Medical (STJ), and Tractor Supply (TSCO).

Thursday, July 21

The busiest day of the week will include weekly jobless claims, the Philadelphia Fed business outlook survey, and existing home sales.

A hefty schedule for earnings reports will include Travelers (TRV), Visa (V), AT&T (T)Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Alaska Air (ALK), Biogen (BIIB), Blackstone (BX), Capital One (COF), CMG, Domino's Pizza (DPZ), DHI, Dunkin Brands (DNKN), General Motors (GM), Hawaiian Holdings (HA), Huntington Bancshares (HBAN), Pandora Media (P), PayPal (PYPL), PHM, Schlumberger (SLB), Skyworks Solutions (SWKS), Sherwin-Williams (SHW), Southwest Airlines (LUV), SBUX, and Union Pacific (UNP). 

Friday, July 22

The week will wrap up with Markit's flash purchasing managers manufacturing index (PMI). Reports from GE, American Airlines (AAL), Honeywell (HON), Stanley Black & Decker (SWK), VF Corp (VFC), and Whirlpool (WHR) will round out the week's earnings calendar.
