It should be an interesting week, as earnings season unofficially gets underway, with
Alcoa Inc (NYSE:AA) reporting on Monday. Aside from that, the earnings calendar is packed with big bank stocks, including
Citigroup Inc (NYSE:C) and
JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE:JPM). Separately, a raft of Fed officials will speak throughout the week, while the central bank's Beige Book will hit the Street mid-week.
Below is a brief list of some key market events scheduled for the upcoming week. All earnings dates listed below are tentative and subject to change. Please check with each company's respective website for official reporting dates.
Monday, July 11 The economic calendar is relatively empty on Monday. However, Cleveland Fed President Loretta Mester will give a speech in the evening. Earnings season unofficially kicks off with quarterly results from AA.
Tuesday, July 12
The Labor Department's Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) highlights Tuesday's docket. In addition, Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari will speak, as will Mester once again. On the earnings front, Fastenal (FAST) will report.
Wednesday, July 13
Wednesday's lineup includes import and export prices, the weekly crude inventories report, the Treasury budget, and the Fed's Beige Book, along with a speech from Philadelphia Fed President Patrick Harker. CSX Corporation (CSX) and Yum! Brands (YUM) will tell all in the earnings confessional.
Thursday, July 14 Weekly jobless claims and the producer price index (PPI) are due out Thursday. In addition, Atlanta Fed President Dennis Lockhart and Kansas City Fed President Esther George will speak, while St. Louis Fed President James Bullard will host a two-day meeting of the Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum. Set to report earnings are BlackRock (BLK), JPM, and Progressive (PGR).
Friday, July 15 The week wraps up with the consumer price index (CPI), retail sales, the Empire State manufacturing survey, industrial production numbers, business inventories, and the Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan consumer sentiment index. C, PNC Financial (PNC), U.S. Bancorp (USB), and Wells Fargo (WFC) will step in the earnings spotlight.
