Rivian Automotive Inc (NASDAQ:RIVN) is scheduled to report second-quarter earnings on Thursday, July 30, after the market close. Analysts at Zacks Research are anticipating losses of 65 cents per share on $1.58 billion in revenue.

The electric vehicle (EV) maker has closed only three of its last eight next-day sessions higher, including a surge of 26.6% in February. Options traders are bracing for a sizeable post-earnings swing of 12.9%, regardless of direction, compared to the average 6.2% shift over the past eight quarters.

The shares have added 24% year-over-year and are testing support at the 120-day moving average, which has helped contain losses this month.

Meanwhile, the 140.54 million shares sold short account for 14.59% of RIVN's available float, and it would take short sellers four days to buy back their bets at the stock's average pace of trading.

It's also worth noting that Rivian's Schaeffer's Volatility Scorecard (SVS) comes in at 16 out of 100. In other words, the stock has consistently realized lower volatility than its options have priced in over the past 12 months, making it a premium-selling candidate.

The $25K Day Trading Barrier is Gone

The long-standing Pattern Day Trader (PDT) rule that required many traders to maintain a $25,000 account balance is no longer standing in the way.

That means more traders can actively pursue short-term opportunities without the barrier that kept so many on the sidelines.

Now it's all about having the right strategy.
