Infrared signals over coax

Distribution Panels That Can Carry
Infrared Signals Over the Coax

Some Video Distribution systems will allow you to pass remote control signals from the rooms back to source equipment. For example, by using a modulator, you can view your satellite receiver in each room, but how do you control it? A system, like the one pictured above, uses infrared sensors in some rooms to catch the signals from the remote control. The sensors turn the light energy into electrical signals that are then inserted onto the coax cable. This is the same coax cable that delivers all the cable and modulated channels to each room. At the satellite dish location, a special wall plate will extract the infrared signals and pass them to an emitter. The emitter takes those electrical signals and turns them back into light impulses for the receiver.
