Global markets rise on in-line Chinese GDP data

Stocks in Asia finished modestly higher today, as traders applauded in-line second-quarter gross domestic product (GDP) figures for China. By the close, Hong Kong's Hang Seng added 0.1%, South Korea's Kospi tacked on 0.3%, and the Shanghai Composite advanced 1%. Japanese markets were shuttered for holiday.

China's GDP data is also bolstering European benchmarks, with resource-related stocks blazing the trail higher. At last check, London's FTSE 100 and France's CAC 40 are both up 0.4%, while Germany's DAX is trading with a 0.2% gain.
