After yesterday's run to a new record peak in the S&P 500 Index (SPX), U.S. stocks are pointed north again, with futures modestly higher ahead of the open. In company news, here are some stocks to watch today:

  • Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) unveiled a new self-driving car prototype yesterday. The two-seater lacks an accelerator, brake pedal, and steering wheel, but comes fitted with a plethora of sensors, as well as GOOGL's self-driving software system. (Re/code)

  • At the Code technology conference yesterday, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) debuted a new version of Skype, which is capable of translating conversations in near real time. MSFT CEO Satya Nadella said his company's research division -- which produced the motion-sensing device Kinect -- has been working on "machine translation" for roughly 15 years. (Forbes)

  • Valeant Pharmaceuticals Intl Inc (NYSE:VRX) has sold the U.S. and Canadian commercialization rights for Restylane and other skin care items to Nestle for $1.4 billion. With the acquisition, Nestle now has the exclusive ability to sell the products in every country around the world. Elsewhere, VRX raised its bid to buy Botox maker Allergan, Inc. (NYSE:AGN). • Britain's Serious Fraud Office has officially opened a criminal investigation into GlaxoSmithKline plc's (ADR) (NYSE:GSK) "commercial practices." Although few details were provided, GSK has come under fire internationally, with employees in China, Iraq, and Poland being charged with bribery and other improper behaviors. (The New York Times)

  • Also, Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc. (NASDAQ:CBRL) and Michael Kors Holdings Ltd (NYSE:KORS) reported quarterly earnings. (MarketWatch)

  • Finally, a Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX) customer set an unofficial record by "purchasing" a 60-shot, 128-ounce Vanilla Bean Mocha Frappuccino, worth $54.75. However, since the man is a Gold member of SBUX's loyalty program, the drink -- which took roughly 10 minutes to make -- was free. (Consumerist)
