After yesterday's sell-off, the major market indexes appear to be in rebound mode, with futures pointed higher ahead of the opening bell. In company news, here are some stocks to watch today:

  • Howard Schultz, CEO of Starbucks Corporation (NASDAQ:SBUX), has personally committed himself to the advancement of digital projects, such as the java giant's rewards program and mobile payment platform. At the same time, Chief Financial Officer Troy Alstead will assume the duties of chief operating officer -- a newly created position -- to assist with day-to-day company oversight. (Boston.com)

  • After more than five months, Microsoft Corporation's (NASDAQ:MSFT) search for a new CEO appears to be winding down, sources say. The current frontrunner according to insiders is Satya Nadella, a 22-year MSFT veteran who currently heads the software concern's enterprise unit. (Re/code)

  • Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) announced plans to sell Motorola Mobility to Chinese tech firm Lenovo. GOOG originally paid $12.5 billion to acquire the Motorola unit, but will recoup just $2.91 billion on the sale. (The New York Times)

  • Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) has developed a Kindle-based checkout system that it plans to offer to small and mid-size retailers. According to The Wall Street Journal, the system could potentially make its debut this summer. (Los Angeles Times)

  • Also, 3M Co (NYSE:MMM), Exxon Mobil Corporation (NYSE:XOM), Visa Inc (NYSE:V), Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB), QUALCOMM, Inc. (NASDAQ:QCOM), and United Parcel Service, Inc. (NYSE:UPS) reported quarterly earnings. (Reuters; CNBC)

  • Finally, "Italian" restaurant Olive Garden -- owned by Darden Restaurants, Inc. (NYSE:DRI) -- is trying to entice parents to try its two-for-$25 dinner special by offering a night of free babysitting on Friday, Feb. 7.
